Initial Assessment

All new riders start with an assessment to determine the appropriate level of instruction.  After that we offer the option of private, semi-private or group lessons.  Private lessons are recommended until the student is comfortable controlling the horse or pony at a walk and trot.  The assessment takes about 1/2 hour, with a fee of $35.00.

  Dress Code

At Ballygrace, we encourage safety at all times, both on and off the horses and ponies. Proper riding attire serves two purposes. The first is to ensure the riders safety, with the use of proper riding boots, hairnets and approved helmets and safety vests. Breeches and/or jodhpurs are less binding than denim, and have more grip than fleece or knit pants. The inner suede patch at the knee helps the leg positioning, and assists the rider in achieving a more controlled seat. Proper boots with a heel will fit in the stirrup iron, and this provides a more secure platform from which to work. Secondly, proper riding attire helps the coaches to visualize each rider's proper form.
With this in mind, we wanted to remind everyone that all riders will be required to wear proper riding breeches to all lessons. Boots with heels, an approved riding helmet are also mandatory, and if you are jumping, you must wear an approved safety vest. Any rider who has hair that is longer than the nape of the neck must wear hair nets under their riding helmets. These can be purchased at any drug store or tack shop. If you are unable to obtain any of these items, please contact us and we will do our best to assist you.

Practice Rides

We are pleased to be able to offer you some extra time to ride at Ballygrace Farm. These rides are available to Ballygrace Farm active students only, who have purchased a monthly lesson package.  These rides are for students who are at a certain level in their riding abilities and who demonstrate personal maturity and responsibility.  Please speak with your coach to see if you or your child would qualify.  These rides are available during the summer season, only on Saturday evenings (5:30 - 7:00PM) and Sunday (11:00AM - 4:00PM). For the winter season on Sunday (11:00AM - 1:00PM)

These practice rides are great birthday gifts or rewards for a job well done! They enable our riders to work on their skills, enhance their abilities and improve confidence.
